ESL Buddies Potluck: A Table Full of Friendship

Our recent ESL Buddies Potluck at Amani Women Center was a wonderful celebration of friendship, culture, and community. We shared delicious international cuisine, great conversations, and plenty of laughter.

Around the table, English practice happened the way it happens best, naturally, warmly, and over something good to eat.

About the ESL Buddy Program

The ESL Buddy Program at Amani Women Center is a supportive, relationship-based English language learning initiative that pairs refugee women with volunteers to practice conversational English in a safe and welcoming environment. The program helps participants build confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and everyday communication while fostering meaningful social connections and reducing isolation.

Through one-on-one interactions, participants strengthen their ability to navigate daily life, access services, communicate with employers, and pursue economic opportunities. The program complements our workforce development and sewing programs by helping women gain the language skills needed for greater independence, self-sufficiency, and community integration.

One friendship at a time

At AWC, community is built conversation by conversation, dish by dish, and friendship by friendship.

Come be part of it. Whether you’d like to volunteer as a buddy or support the program, we’d love to have you at the table. Visit amaniwomencenter.org or call our front desk at 770-355-0539.
