Community Ambassadors Program: A Model to be Replicated

Carrying community knowledge to a global stage
Amani Women Center was honored to present at the International Refugee & Migration Health Conference on a philosophy that is at the center of our Community Ambassadors Program. This philosophy states that researchers and community-based organizations are strongest when they partner together, and when community knowledge is valued as expertise.
The Community Ambassador Model
Amani Women Center’s Community Ambassador Model is an approach that demonstrates how trusted community members can strengthen research, improve engagement, and ensure that findings are meaningful and actionable.
Our Amani Community Ambassadors are neighbors, elders, and trusted voices within the communities they serve. Because they speak the languages and understand the lived realities of the women around them, they can open doors that outside researchers cannot. They help shape questions that matter, invite honest participation, and make sure that what a study learns can actually be put to use in the community it came from.
The Community Ambassador Model offers a path where the people closest to an issue help guide the search for answers, and where trust becomes the foundation for better, more equitable health outcomes. Research has the greatest impact when communities are partners.
We’re grateful to the organizers and everyone who joined the discussion.
