Sharing the Power of Economic Empowerment with the Next Generation

Leadership grows when generations meet. This summer, Amani Women Center was excited to participate in the Student Leaders Seneca Marketplace during the Bank of America Student Leaders Summit in Charlotte, NC.

The summit brought together more than 250 rising college sophomores from across the country who are taking part in six-week paid nonprofit internships and coming together to strengthen their leadership, civic engagement, and career readiness skills. It’s a remarkable investment in young people who are just beginning to imagine what kind of leaders they want to become.

Showcasing the work of refugee women entrepreneurs

From June 16–18, Amani Women Center had the opportunity to showcase our mission, share the inspiring work of refugee women entrepreneurs, and engage with the next generation of changemakers.

We shared our simple truth by showcasing products made by our Amani Sewing Academy students: economic empowerment creates lasting impact for women and families. When a refugee woman learns a skill, builds a business, or turns her craft into income, the effects reach far beyond her, into her family, her community, and the generations that follow.

Where two generations of leaders meet

It was a memorable experience to bring the stories of refugee women entrepreneurs into a room full of emerging young leaders. Both are proof of what becomes possible when people are given opportunity, support, and the belief that they can build something meaningful.
