Hope of Africa – “Outstanding Community Leader Award” at the 5th Annual Black Excellence Awards.

Doris Mukangu was honored with the “Outstanding Community Leader Award” at the 5th Annual Black Excellence Awards, hosted by African Awards USA on Saturday, April 19, 2025. As the founder and executive director of Amani Women Center (AWC) — a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Clarkston, Georgia—Doris has dedicated herself to uplifting women and families in her community.

The award was presented by Clarkston’s Mayor, Beverly Burks, in recognition of Doris’s tireless advocacy and leadership. Among the many honorees was Glory Kilanko – Founder and Executive Director of Women Watch Afrika – honored with the “Lifetime Achievement Award.”

*Abigail Thomas, Executive Director of African Awards USA, announced that a portion of the evening’s proceeds will support the Hope of Africa Organization, enabling them to continue supplying medical equipment, scholarships, school supplies, and other vital resources to orphans and underserved communities across West Africa. The Black Excellence Awards is an annual celebration produced by Hope of Africa, Inc., a nonprofit committed to empowering communities through education and sustainable development.
