AWC Celebrates 30 Empowered ASA Graduates – Class of 2024

“For many, sewing was not just a skill they sought to learn but a metaphor for stitching together a new life.” For twelve months, the women are bound by stories of survival and hope, attending weekly classes, mastering sewing techniques, sharing laughter, and supporting one another through the challenges. The program didn’t just teach them to sew; it taught them confidence, teamwork, and the value of their contributions. It was a safe space where they transformed not only as individuals but as a community.

The sewing program is a lifeline, and for our 30 graduates it represents a bridge from survival to economic empowerment. Through fabric and thread, they weave stories of hope, resilience, and triumph, proving that when women are empowered, they transform the world around them and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Among the program participants was Mama Cecile, who had fled from Congo after losing her home to war. Then, she discovered the Amani Women Center Sewing program. “I wanted to do more than survive,” Mama Cecile said. “I wanted to thrive, to give my children hope.” Mama Cecile is also part of AWC’s ESL buddy project and she just received her U.S. Citizenship – we are very proud of her!
